Molteni&C's new home concept was conceived by Vincent Van Duysen on stage at the 2022 Salone del Mobile.Milano. Light becomes an integral part of the design, because it modulates the way the architectural composition is perceived and expressed. Recalling the words of Walter Gropius, the new architecture opens the walls, as if they were drapes to allow as much fresh air, light, and sunshine as possible enter the space.
Living, once again, is central to every corner of the home. A theater of life experienced, where the quality of the home environment is the key premise for planning the various rooms: increasingly more versatile, multifunctional, and able to adapt to multiple usages . The point of departure is a cozy, reassuring, and welcoming home.
This year, references to the roots of movement are fleeting and evocative. The focus is the atmospheres: the fluid homes designed to be lived in, the large and convivial rooms linked to one another, the permeable interior and exterior spaces. And above all, it speaks to the idea of a space that is extremely elegant but without ostentation for ostentation’s sake, in tune with the surrounding landscape. Paraphrasing Alvar Aalto, spaces in their form express content and that content is linked to Nature.
“The home aspires to holistic well-being and to organic playfulness”
Vincent Van Duysen
Like the great homes of American modernism, Vincent van Duysen imagines a single story house, characterized by transparency and organized with lightweight partitions and wide externally-facing verandas and terraces. Thresholds, open spaces halfway between indoors and outdoors, spaces that are private, but in direct contact with light and Nature.
“It’s a hymn to ethereal design, inspired by the great pavilions of the modernist era. Dynamic spaces characterized by the lightness of the lines, skillfully combined with details and materials that create softly shaped products”.
Vincent Van Duysen
It proposes a coherent space in which every detail is part of a unitary principle that animates the project. In this approach, the furnishings and the modular units become protagonists in the layout of the rooms.
Furnishings fuse with the very articulation of the house, integrating new compositional possibilities that wrap round the existing architectures. A symbiosis is created between furnishing systems and architectural walls. A dialogue between the structural elements and the moveable furniture, which becomes a vehicle of expression within the home.
“This year, our products have been stimulated by a strong desire not toabandon fluidity, sensuality. or comfort. Our eye is guided on every curvewhile a great feeling of calm emanates from the whole range.”
