ENAMMELLED LAVA STONE

Etna lava stone. Surfaces designed by volcanic fire. Compact and resistant to crumbling, lava rock evokes primordial materials and forces. Despite its glassy finish, appreciable features include the unrepeatable mark of the lava, which gives rise to different material properties depending on the ground where it originates, and the human touch expressed during processing. The surface of the stone slab is subjected to a glazing process at 1300°C in a specific oven, bonding the siliconbased components, which endow the tops with special colours — obtained from recycled TV screens and discarded computers, TV and PC monitors — and an unmistakable glassy surface. The process of crushing and grinding the material conveys extraordinary strength and water resistance to the surface.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Cleaning should be done preferably under cloudy skies or in the shade. Ensure that the furniture is cool before starting. Do not use abrasive sponges, steel brushes, or abrasive/caustic cleansers. Do not use steam cleaners or pressure washers. Always try to remove food residue or spilled drinks, fallen leaves, berries, flowers, and bird droppings as soon as possible to prevent stains and mould. Do not place hot objects such as kettles or pans directly on the stone surface, since this could result in stains or changes to the surface that cannot be removed or repaired.

STORAGE

Carefully clean items before storing them. Store in a dry, unheated, ventilated room, and never use airtight plastic covers. Molteni&C offers custom protective covers. Should the table be stored inside, we recommend removing the top from the base and storing it vertically on a soft surface. Always move the top in a vertical position. Carefully clean the table before storing it.

Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp, in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design. The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound. Furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.

Regent | Outdoor | Coffee Table

Vincent Van Duysen designed the Regent coffee tables with three top shapes: round, oval and square. The size of the tops is inversely proportional to the height of the coffee tables, allowing them to fit into each other, creating islands of elements side by side. The round one is also designed to be placed above the sofas in the two collections, providing a useful shelf.

The rounded shape of the tops, which have no edges, and the theme of the metal band, here in a vertical rather than horizontal position, cite both the compositional fil rouge of the Timeout Collection and the organicity of the lines underlying the Landmark Collection.

A common and distinctive element of the Regent series is the ring-shaped base. With its slender, minimalist profile, it is made up of two burnished painted aluminium frames: one supporting the top and one at the base, which incorporates, with a refined slotted movement, the two vertical support rods. The base is the result of a profound and careful attention to detail, to the mechanisms for joining the elements and to a precise study of proportions.

Similarly, the chromatic and material recurrence of the burnished metal and the top in Etna lava stone, give the Regent coffee tables a sense of continuity between the two collections. The vitreous inserts of the Etna lava stone, used for the oven-baked enamelling of the surfaces, come from the crushing of recycled glass from TV and PC monitors.
